The Center for Marine and Nautical Sciences is a dynamic learning laboratory and a certified “Green” building surrounded by a tidal salt marsh on the shores of Sippican Harbor. The environmentally protected state-of-the-art facility houses aquaculture facilities, over 75 tanks and a variety of salt water flow-through options. In 2005, the project received an Honor Award for Design from AIA’s Rhode Island Chapter. Newport Collaborative Architects, Inc. earned the Boston Society of Architects/AIA’s 2007 Award for Design Excellence in the Educational Facilities Kindergarten – Grade 12 category, for their design.
